What Does "Discovering" Mean to Me?

What Does ‘Discovery’ Mean?
Discovery is a great thing. Discovery is finding something no one ever found before, like Atlantis, fossils, and other things. When you find something it usually goes to museums. On the cover of my Discovery binder it has me looking for something awesome. That is all I have to say good-bye.

What Makes an Effective Professional Arcade Game?

The Game I played was Running Man 2. The company that supports the video arcade game of Running Man is Camadro, Inc. You play the game by trying and get the man to the finish without touching any red blocks that are obstacles. You should move because there is a red thing chasing you. Use the arrow-keys or WASD to move the guy. The game instructions are displayed under the screen of the game. The game rating is a three star out of four stars.. You win by getting to the finish without touching any red things. I you win the game it says congratulations and you can play the game again.
To build the game I would need cardboard, tape, string, yarn and many more things. I don’t know how much the game costs to build but I guess 25 Dollars. You would buy it for 30 Dollars.

Design Brief
What is the Concept Design of My Crusie Arcade Game?
The name of Kevin and Matthew’s arcade game is Cruzie Marble. You play the game by getting the ball through a big maze by flicking the ball. The ball will need to go through holes to get past the maze. There will be a piece of paper on the side of the box to tell you the directions. The level of difficulty is 3 out of 1-4 rating star system. You win the game by getting the ball in the holes that have higher points. If you win the game you get a prize, and we give you a high five.
In our blueprint of the game we have a front, back, and side view of our game. On the front you can see a flicking spot where you are going to flick the ball. On the side you can see a diagram of the whole game. On the back you can see the down-ramp and point area.

The materials that you need are duct tape, cardboard, balls, toilet paper tubes, and foam. To build the game it will take about 8 classes. The main problem is the ramp that we cannot get to stick to the board. The other problem is getting the duct tape to stay on the board.

What were the Results of Testing Our Game?
Examiner: Mrs. Horst

Date: 1/31/13

Praise: I liked how you had to be flexible with your game and were able to change the design of the game. Excellent job! Very creative game!

Polish: Add the rule to the rule sheet about how you have to subtract points if the ball comes out.

Question: Would you consider adding more dinosaurs? This would make it more difficult. When will you get your prizes?

Student Comment: I appreciate you coming in and testing our game, Cruise Marble! We got our prizes the next day! We got the dinosaurs from Natty, but I would still try to get more of the dinosaurs. If we had more time I would have definitely added more dinosaurs.

Examiner: Mrs. Koska

Date: 2/1/13

Praise: Like how the holes are not on top. They are on the bottom. Love the dinosaurs because they stop the ball. It makes it more difficult.

Question: What gave you the idea of the dinosaurs? Dinosaurs impede the ball from going directly in.

Polish: Just push the ball instead of flick. Need a backboard or backsplash so ball can come back

Student Comment: I totally agree! We wanted to make the game, Cruise Marble, harder than easier. The dinosaurs make it more difficult. I would definitely add a backboard if there was more time. Thanks for the praise!

Examiner: Ms. Pinkard

Date: 1/31/13

Praise: Creative idea – fun to play! Great team work!!

Question: Would bigger (heavier) ball be easier – stay on course? Allow person to pick the ball they use.

Polish: Cut hole bigger 1000 + 200, use larger ball for course, give smaller balls as prize.

Student Comment: Thanks for the praise. I appreciate you coming in and critiquing our game. We worked really hard and well together. We would definitely make the hole bigger if we had more time. The bigger ball did work, but Hudson wanted it as a prize so, sadly, we gave it away. The big ball would be harder to push and get through the hole so the game would have had to be changed. We did not want to give balls as a prize.

Make It Better
How Can We Make the Crusie Arcade Game Better?
Reflection on Project

What can we do to improve our Arcade Creation?

We would improve or game by making glass around the back of the game so the ball would not go out.

Specifically, how would we do this?

We would do this by taping the glass to the back of the game

Reflection on Process

What did you learn to do with the Crusie Arcade Project?

We learned that if you put Duct Tape all over the game it would not fall apart.

What do you know now that you didn’t know before doing the Project?

I learned how to use me and my partner’s idea.

What can you do now that you couldn’t before doing this project?

I can make an arcade game out of card board and materials.

What did you like about the project that helped your learning?

I like that you worked with a partner and you had to figure out how to make things better.

What could have been done differently to help your learning?

Having Mr. May tell us if it would work or not.

A Final Reflection:

Matthew and I made the game, Cruise Marble. We could have made our game better by putting plastic around the back and sides so the balls would not fall out. We would do this by buying plastic and wrap it around our game. We were able to make our entire game by collaborating and by putting both of our ideas into the project. We also had to use a lot of cardboard and tape. We came up with the design because we wanted to do a maze, and then we thought of marbles so we did a marble maze. The game was built by using cardboard and tape. The process was good because we received a lot of comments and good suggestions.
